Last winter's blizzard. This photo was taken in front of Border's (huge bookstore) in Boston. Today it snowed a bit, thankfully not anything close to this memorable storm... snow shovelling was quick :)

Walden Pond

Esta fotografia foi tirada em Novembro de 2003 num dia muito frio. Walden Pond é um lago perto de Concord muito visitado no verão e mesmo no final de Outono pelos nadadores mais resistentes...
Foi aqui que o escritor norte-americano Henry David Thoreau viveu numa cabana. Fizeram uma réplica da cabana original para recriar a condição de vida do Thoreau, que era muito humilde mesmo para aquela época. Ele caçava animais, pescava e recolhia frutos para sobreviver. O sítio original da cabana está assinalado por uma pedra com escrita de Thoreau.
In 1845, Henry David Thoreau went to live and work at Walden Pond. He stayed for two years, keeping a journal of his thoughts and his encounters with nature and society. He collected and revised these observations during the next seven years and published them in the book, Walden. Click here for more on Thoreau's work.

Existe um linha de comboio que servia para transportar gelo do lago para Cambridge e outras localidades (no fridges in those days).
